[Workshop Wednesday] Silver Age

Welcome back to TwistedSpoon Studio! This week, Workshop Wednesday is a little wacky-- we're doing silver-border, baby! After all, what's funnier than explaining your jokes?

Before we get started, I want to say that there are two different kinds of Un-designs in the world of custom magic. There are genuine, this-is-a-card-you-could-play designs and there are joke cards that are clearly never meant to come anywhere near a table. This article is going to cover a couple of both, but I think you'll be able to tell the difference.

Be Cool, Dude

Do you remember those halcyon days of kitchen table Magic? Did you ever play at school over your lunch break, or during homeroom before first period? Ah, those were the days. And if someone tries to get pedantic about the numbers, just read the title!

Quit the Game Forever

Oftentimes, when I post a silver-border design, it's in response to a trend in the community. Sometime last year, r/CustomMagic had a huge boner for ante. So here it is: the ultimate Ante support card!

Oh-Two Milkshake Bracket

If you watch Loading Ready Run, you get it. If you don't, let's just say there's a reason that they were brought on to write for Unfinity. Enough said.

Wombo Dream

This is another design in response to a trend. I don't hate Wombo art, but I do think it's lazy. There are entire websites full of great art where the artist's name is right there.

Blurred Lines

It's an Aura with Equip. Neat, right? This one came about in response to NEO, and the way that set really pushed the boundary between artifacts and enchantments. Bonus points if you recognize the art!

"Oh Sh-t!"

Honestly, what's funnier than this card is the fact that some guy on Reddit got really, really torqued over the idea that I would be okay with burning someone's Legacy deck, but not with putting "shit" uncensored in a card title. What kind of psychopath would actually try to play this card? Besides that one commenter, I guess. I still think about it as I lie awake at night.

Jokes on Me

That's all for this week! What's your approach to silver-border design? What are your favorite silver-border cards? Let us know in the comments or over on r/TwistedSpoonStudio. Next week, we'll be doing something a little different-- showcasing cards from a certain custom set. Stay tuned!
